The school is diligent about the safety and well-being of its pupils and staff, and has established policies and procedures in place.
Safeguarding and Child Protection
Information about procedures used in our school to safeguard pupils and protect them from abuse and neglect can be found in the school’s Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy.
Covid-19
The school continues to promote good respiratory hygiene and implement regular handwashing in order to lower the risk of transmission of coronavirus.
The school will continue to implement a system of controls in response to the latest Government guidance for schools. Parents are reminded to follow NHS and Public Health England advice regarding symptoms.
Online Safety and Well-being
The school treats all aspects of the safety of the children with the utmost importance including matters pertaining to the use of technology.
All parents are asked to sign the school’s Use of Technology Parent/Carer Agreement. This covers a range of areas, including taking photographs or video of children during school hours or events.
The computing lead gives a regular awareness raising session for parents. See our page dedicated to associated online safety and well-being resources.
Nut Free Zone
Please note: The school is strictly nut free. Food containing nuts should not be brought into school under any circumstances.
Health Screening
Parents of Reception children are required to complete and sign the health questionnaire and to return it to the School Nurse via the school office. All pupils have their health screened, (usually in Reception and Year 6), which includes height, weight, visual and hearing tests. Parents are welcome to discuss any health issues with the School Nurse. Information from parents helps to develop any Health Care Plans that may be required.
Injuries During the School Day
The school’s qualified First Aiders treat minor injuries received at school and a log of all accidents is recorded. Parents will receive written notification if a child has sustained minor injuries during the school day. All head injuries, even the most minor, will be reported to parents in the same manner.
If a pupil becomes unwell and is unable to remain in school or is involved in a serious accident, parents are notified immediately.
Medical Needs
The school will do all it can to support and care for pupils with medical needs in order to ensure their attendance at school and their access to the curriculum. The school has a ‘Supporting Children with Medical Conditions’ policy. In all instances, only medication prescribed by a doctor (clearly labelled and provided in its original packaging) will be administered to pupils. Parents are required to complete the relevant permissions forms at the school office if prescribed medicine is required to be administered by the school.
Head Lice and Nits
Checking for head lice and nits is the responsibility of parents as hair inspections are not carried out at school. Parents should consult their health visitor or pharmacist for advice concerning the treatment of nits. In any case of infestation, the school must be informed and all parents will be required to check their children’s hair.
Emergency Drills
Fire drills take place each term according to officially approved evacuation
procedures. In addition, the school has stringent evacuation and invacuation procedures in place.
CCTV
Closed circuit cameras monitor the school grounds and all persons entering and leaving every entrance and exit to the school 24 hours a day.
